DECEMBER 2008 WHENEVER STASHBUSTER SOX


The point of this is to use what you have on hand
Take a handpaint or something with short color runs
3 – 6 stitches per color
When you get to a specific color, you purl the stitches
I chose black to be the color purled with this yarn
Remember, the color above the stitch you purl, will be the color of
the purl bump that shows

This sock will fit a woman’s med foot

MATERIALS:
100 grams of fingering weight yarn
Size 2 needles (or needles to achieve gauge)
1 stitch marker to designate the beginning of the round
Gauge = st / inch & rows / inch
ABBREVIATIONS:
Sl1 = Slip 1 stitch as to knit
K = knit
P = purl
PSSO = pass slip stitch over {knit stitch}
YO = yarn over {wrap yarn over needle, will be knit in the next row}
K2TOG = Knit 2 stitched together
SSK = Slip first stitch as to knit, slip 2nd stitch as to knit, knit the 2 stitches together
P2Tog = Purl 2 stitches together
DC = K1, K2Tog, knit across to 3 stitches before end of needle, SSK, K1
* = * Repeat what is in between *asterisk*
Pattern stitch – when you get to the designated color – PURL the color
Cuff
Cast on 64 stitches, Join being careful not to twist K2P2 for 10 rounds
LEG
Start knitting the sock, remembering to PURL the designated color
Work until the leg of the sock is as long as YOU want it to be
Knit 2 rounds


HEEL over 32 stitches
1. K3* K1, Sl 1* K3
2. K3* PURL* K3
3. K3* Sl 1, K1*K3
4. K3* PURL*K3
Work heel for 2 ¾ " (20 garter ridges) or desired heel flap

ROUNDER HEEL TURN
Sl 1, K18, SSK, K1 TURN
Sl 1, P7, P2TOG, P1 TURN
Sl 1, K8, SSK, K1, TURN
Sl 1, P9, P2TOG, P1, TURN
Sl 1, K10, SSK, K1, TURN
Continue working one more stitch each row
until all the stitches have been used worked.


GUSSET PICK UP
Pick up a stitch at each garter ridge,
knit across insteps, pick up a stitch at each garter ridge,
knit across heel stitches
Knit 1 round


GUSSET DECREASE
Starting at instep, knit across, on 2nd needle,
K1, K2Tog, knit across to 3 stitches before end of needle,
SSK, K1Knit around
Repeat these 2 rounds till you have 32 stitches on each needle

FOOT
knit till 2 ½ " shorter than foot length


TOE
DC = K1, K2Tog, knit across to 3 stitches before end of needle,
SSK, K1, repeat for 2nd needle
